Welcome to the December 22, 2008 edition of workout blog carnival. We’re rapidly approaching Christmas - have you been good? Have you been working out? I admit with the holiday rush I’ve been neglecting going to the gym myself. Anyway, here are this week’s selections. They include tips on those upcoming New Year’s Resolutions you may be considering, as well as more on yoga and other forms of exercise.
I hope you and yours have a most blessed Christmas and a great New Year!

Kara-Leah presents A short home yoga practice for managing back pain posted at Prana Flow NZ, saying, “A healthy spine is probably one of the most wonderful things one can experience - I know the more I practice yoga, the more my spine opens up, the more liberated I feel from within my body. To create this practice, I have drawn on my many years of chronic back issues, and my many years of home yoga practice.” Workoutebooks’ 2 cents: If you’ve read this blog carnival for any length of time, you should know I’m a Yoga fan. This article describes several classic yoga poses and gives good advice on using yoga to keep your back in shape. If you have back pain, you can appreciate the idea of keeping your back in shape. If you don’t have back pain, I suggest you work at keeping your back limber now before you run into issues later.

Keira presents Surfing and Wakeboarding for Weight Loss posted at Weight Ladder. Workoutebooks’ 2 cents: I haven’t been surfing or wakeboarding, but having tried a pseudo wake board type ride at a water park, I can imagine it would be great workout. If you live in an area with decent surfing available or with the chance of doing some wakeboarding, might be worth looking into. It seems like one of those activities where you’ll have so much fun you’ll forget you’re exercising.
Jeremy Reeves presents Is The Elliptical Fitness Machine Worth The Money? posted at Fitness Product Reviews, Workoutebooks’ 2 cents: I don’t believe in having fitness equipment at home. I think you can just as easily neglect a home workout as you can a gym membership. Read on for Jeremy’s take on Elliptical Fitness machines at home and decide for yourself.

Ralph Jean-Paul presents Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions posted at Potential 2 Success, saying, ““”Start sticking to those New Year’s Resolutions by learning what resolutions really are, why some resolutions don’t work, and how to follow through on them.”" Workoutebooks’ 2 cents: Ok, this one really doesn’t have much to do with exercise per se, but since we are SO close to the New Year I thought it would be appropriate to include something motivational for those of us planning on resolutions. Let’s face it, most New Year’s Resolutions are NEVER followed to realization. That doesn’t mean you can’t try and this article has some suggestions for how to make a New Year’s Resolution you will work to keep.
Ray Burton presents How To Build The Upper Chest posted at WWW.BuildingBodies.Ca Workout Routines, saying, “You hear a lot of discussion about building parts of a muscle. Some of the most frequent are, how to build upper chest, lower biceps and the like. But can you actually change the look of PART of a muscle? Well I guess that depends on the muscle and it’s attachments. Well the groups that make up the muscle more than the attachment, but we’ll get into that. I wanted to see what you folks thought so I’m opening up the topic of working the upper chest to general discussion. Just leave your opinion in the comments below. I look forward to reading them.” Workoutebooks’ 2 cents: Nuts and bolts article on working out your chest. He includes some great exercises here.
