Body Detox Side Effects - Are You Suffering a Healing Crisis?

When you go on a detox you expect to start feeling healthier and have more energy. But it is not uncommon to have some side effects. This can be as a result of the toxins that are being released. Some natural therapy practitioners refer to this as a healing crisis.

One of the most common feelings you may get is a headache and just feeling ‘groggy’. This may happen on day 1 of your detox diet or it may occur later. Other effects that people feel are increased irritability, inability to concentrate and tiredness.

Although it may not feel like it at the time but these symptoms are actually a good sign. It is a sign that your body is starting to eliminate toxins and it is these that are causing the problem.

Here are some tips to get through this period. If you feel like sleeping, then don’t be afraid to take yourself to bed. This will allow your body to recover and put its energy into the detox.

Some people find that doing gentle exercise also helps. You can practice yoga, breathing exercises or stress management techniques. Taking a short walk in the fresh air will also be good for you.

Throughout your detox ensure that you are drinking enough water to help flush toxins out of the system. A healthy bowel movement can also sometimes help bring relief from some of the side effects.

When you are planning your detox, it is worth doing so when you don’t have too much on. Try doing it at a weekend or when you have a few days off of work. Any side effects will not have such a major impact on your life.

Stay positive throughout your detox and remember that you will be doing your body a favor in the long run. Any symptoms that you feel are worth going through for the long-term gain.
